A 24-year-old student of School of Planning and Architecture (SPA) was reportedly beaten up at his hostel in Maharani Bagh on Sunday evening.

The student is recuperating at a private nursing home with a broken nose. Students alleged when they tried to intervene in the scuffle, the group of boys brandished pistols and threatened them.

A case of illegal confinement and hurt has been registered at the New Friends Colony police station.

The student, Sunil Kumar (name changed), told the police that on Sunday evening when he was sleeping in his hostel room, around 15-20 boys arrived in two cars and motorcycles. The assailants allegedly included three postgraduate students from the same college.

A student who did not wish to be identified said the group of boys pushed the security guard aside and barged inside the hostel. “They went to Kumar’s room and beat him up for 15 minutes. When a boarder went to ask, the boys took out pistol and asked him to mind his own business,” the student alleged. He said the group was also carrying rods and sticks.

“The victim said he had a tiff with one of his seniors on Saturday night in the parking lot outside their college in ITO. The arguments ensued when the college fest was going on. The senior allegedly threatened him. He has identified two others. A case has been registered against all three and we are investigating,” said a senior police officer.

SPA director Ranjit Mitra did not respond to calls.
