A 58-year-old Delhi police sub-inspector (SI), posted in a police control room (PCR) of east zone, became the latest victim of an attack on police personnel in central Delhi’s Paharganj on Saturday night.
The victim, Deshpal Singh, and his friend, Surendra Singh, were attacked with stones and robbed of their cash and other valuables by two bike-borne assailants when the victims were walking towards a wine shop in Paharganj.
Police said Deshpal was not in uniform as he was off duty.
A case of injury and robbery was registered at the Paharganj police station and one of the accused, identified as Aman, was arrested on Sunday.
Aman is a local ruffian who is involved in two criminal cases, including one of burglary. Efforts are on to nab his partner in crime who is also a local criminal.
Deshpal along with his friend Surendra were walking on the footpath when the accused, who were riding a motorbike tried to snatch Surendra’s phone from his hand.
Surendra resisted while Deshpal immediately swung into action and pushed the motorcycle. In the meantime, the accused who was riding pillion on the motorcycle started attacking the duo with stones.
The other robber joined his accomplice and attacked them with stones. Deshpal suffered serious head injuries, while Surendra sustained injuries on his face.
The miscreants took out Deshpal’s wallet, containing cash and his PAN card from his shirt’s pocket and escaped on their motorcycle.
