Subhash Nagar in west Delhi will get an underground multi-level parking by 2013 that will accommodate 341 cars. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Monday initiated construction of the structure at a cost of Rs 30.70 crore.
BJP MP Navjot Singh Siddhu laid the foundation stone of the ambitious three-storeyed underground parking project that is expected to be completed in 15 months. The total underground area will be 4502.41 sq metre.
Leader of the House in MCD Subhash Arya said the parking lot would be fully equipped with fire-fighting equipments and will cater to the cars coming to the area. He added that there is also a proposal to construct a dispensary, panchkarma, community centre, gym, auditorium and MCD office above the underground parking for the benefit of the residents in the area. “Metro cities like Delhi need space where people can gather and celebrate. This ambitious and unique project of the MCD is a step forward in this direction and it must be lauded,” said Arya.
Giving more details about the project, Arya said that the height of the underground parking would be 11.7 metre. “The proposed construction activity will cover an area of 3638.32 sq. metre at the ground level while an area of 1777.66 sq. metre will be built at the first floor,” he said.
Meanwhile, the other 41 parking projects started by MCD in the last 3-5 years are yet to see completion as work is progressing slowly. Apart from the Subhash Nagar parking project, MCD’s parking projects include 22 conventional parking, four stack parking and 15 multi-level automated parking.
