A 40-year-old suspended Delhi Police constable has been arrested for hatching a detailed plan to get rid of his wife.
Constable Mangal Singh, who has been arrested with his six co-conspirators, had hired three contract killers for Rs 1lakh to kill his wife, Meena, in a staged road accident.
The plan was executed on July 25 in Rohini Sector 6.
The contract killers followed the victim in an SUV for five days but could not execute their plan due to various reasons.
On the sixth day, when Meena was crossing the road, she was hit by the SUV, in which Singh's co-conspirators Anoop, Amit and Anish were seated.
Police said everything was carried out on Singh's instructions. Fortunately, Meena, despite sustaining multiple injuries, survived.
The entire conspiracy would have remained a mystery if the south Delhi police had not apprehended two of the three contract killers during a routine vehicle checking in Saket area. The duo, Anoop and Amit, along with their accomplice Subodh, were caught riding a stolen motorcycle by the Saket police on Monday.
“Seven persons have been arrested in the case and the vehicle used in the accident recovered,” said Chhaya Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Police (south)
