With the BJP raking up a controversy over the appointment of P.J. Thomas as Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC), the government said senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj wanted to have the final say in selecting the vigilance chief.
Rejecting the BJP criticism over CVC's appointment, highly placed sources said Swaraj wanted her choice among the three candidates short listed by the government to prevail, something that was contrary to the law enacted by Parliament.
The CVC is selected out of a list of three officers by a panel chaired by the PM. The home minister and Swaraj are the other members of the panel.
Government sources said it was in a spirit of cooperation that the panel went by Swaraj’s advice when the panel selected a vigilance commissioner out of the three names.
