Deadly swine flu on Sunday claimed eight lives in the country, including two in Maharashtra, taking the toll to 240 from the disease, as 253 new H1N1 cases were reported from across the country.
Two deaths each were reported from Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat were today. One fatality each was reported from Pune and Mumbai and two new fatalities in Andhra Pradesh were from capital Hyderabad.
With this, 240 people have succumbed to the deadly virus in the country, the Health Ministry said.
It said that with the new cases, the number of people infected by the virus has reached nearly 8,000.
"On 19th September 2009, 53920 passengers have been screened at the airports' 83 counters manned by 225 doctors and 172 paramedics. Total passengers screened till date is 6,13,5653," the Ministry said in a statement.
It said samples from 34,376 persons have been tested for H1N1 in government laboratories and a few private laboratories across the country and 7,925 of them have been found positive.
Out of the 253 cases reported during the day, one is an imported cases and rest are indigenous.
