The East Delhi Police have managed to nab the alleged murderers of an 80-year-old woman who was found stabbed to death inside her house on Thursday evening.

The deceased was the younger sister of retired Supreme Court judge D.P. Wadhwa.

A team of special staff, along with local East Delhi police, arrested Raj Kumar, a tailor, and his accomplice Satish Pal, a plumber, for allegedly murdering Pushpa Sain who lived alone in her D-2, Vivek Vihar house.

She was brutally stabbed and bludgeoned to death by the accused during their robbery bid. As the entry into the house was friendly, police said they zeroed in on the people who frequented Sain’s house.

“It came to our notice that a plumber, an electrician, a maid and a tailor had easy access to the house,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) K.C. Dwivedi said.

“During the investigation all were interrogated but the tailor avoided the probe. He was apprehended on April 23. He disclosed his involvement along with his associate.”

The police said Kumar disclosed he was a regular visitor to the house.

“He was addicted to alcohol and gambling for which he needed money,” Dwivedi said.

“A week back he hatched a conspiracy along with his associate. He knew Sain lived alone in a big house and robbing the house could yield a substantial amount.”

The police said Kumar went to the house on April 22 and met the lady who was alone at the home.

“After meeting her, he came out and sent his associate inside. Satish Pal tried to terrorise the old lady, but she resisted. After this, the two pushed her into the bathroom and brought a knife and a blunt object from the kitchen and stabbed her,” added Dwivedi.

The accused, however, could not get hold of any valuables and made off with a mobile phone and some cash.
