CBSE chairperson Vineet Joshi focussed on 'New Innovations in CBSE' at the annual meet of National Progressive Schools' Conference (NPSC), an umbrella body of private-unaided schools.
He said schools and teachers should try to raise the intellectual level of students and let them decide till what depth they want to study. "The role of Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation scheme is to remove the fear of tests and competitions. The differential learning classes and pedagogy for everyone would be possible only if competition with oneself became a reality in schools," said Joshi.
He said students are not expected to master the curriculum or the way teachers want them to perform in academics. "It is impossible for students to master a subject or mug up the entire syllabus. Rather, they must be imparted skills and shown a direction from where they can tread their own path. Teachers should motivate students," Joshi added.
Prof Debashis Chatterjee, director of Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode, conducted a session - Teacher Empowerment, Change Action Choices for School Leaders. He said teachers need to evolve in community sense and not work in isolation.
He highlighted five strategies to empower teachers to fulfil the educational demands of future. These are to plan non-routine time differently, learn undoing, ask what is new, reduce content in presentation and embrace discontinuity.
