Hundreds of teachers from primary schools run by the three municipal corporations in the Capital on Saturday staged a dharna protesting suspension of five of their staff members in wake of the sexual assault of a seven-year-old in a school in Mangolpuri last week.

"We demand that the suspended staff be reinstated immediately and a departmental inquiry be constituted for the same," chairperson of the Joint Council of Primary Teachers Ram Kishan Punja said.

The suspended staffers - principal, class teacher of the girl, school attendant and watchman - have refuted that the incident on March 1 took place inside the school premises and denied involvement of any of the staffers. The four staffers were suspended on March 2.
