Team Anna on Monday supported its member and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi, saying that a case of misappropriation of funds had been lodged against her for fighting for a strong Lokpal Bill and not for fraud and cheating.
"The complaint of misappropriation of funds against Kiran Bedi is false, malicious and malafide. It was lodged against her not for fraud and cheating, but for fighting for a strong Lokpal Bill," said Arvind Kejriwal, a member of Team Anna.
"We want to say it categorically that it's a false complaint. The court order is wrong. There is no prima facie evidence, supporting this complaint," he said.
Bedi and her lawyer, Somnath Bharti, were present at the press meet, but the former police officer did not speak to reporters.
"The court order has no evidence attached. There are two allegations of cheating against Vedanta Foundation and Microsoft," Kejriwal said. "In a letter to us, Vedanta has rejected all the allegations. Microsoft, too, will be sending such a letter soon," he added.
"How can a third party allege cheating when the two parties working with together have no complaints?" Kejriwal asked. He also wanted to know why no notice was issued to Bedi before the court ordered registration of a case against her.
He said, "Bedi has decided not to go to higher courts. She has decided to cooperate with the police during the investigation."
