There was panic and confusion at many schools of west Delhi on Wednesday after the police received several hoax calls warning that terrorists were to storm their premises.
Parents rushed to schools and severe traffic jams were witnessed at several places in west Delhi. The worst traffic jam was witnessed near Spring Meadows School near Dwarka More Metro Station.
“We started receiving calls from anxious parents enquiring if there had been a terrorist attack in the school. Soon many parents and guardians gathered outside the premises. As the school is on the main road, there was a huge traffic jam on the road,” said Anshul Dewan, vice-principal, Spring Meadows.
The police said as soon as they received the calls, they rushed to the schools and thoroughly checked the premises. All the calls were found to be hoax calls.
The police said there were at least eight calls at the police control room that terrorists have entered schools and railway stations in west Delhi on Wednesday.
All the calls were made between 11.30 am and 1.30 pm on Wednesday.
“We received calls that suspicious persons are moving around and terrorists have stormed the schools. We sent out teams and the calls were declared to be hoax,” said Sharad Agarwal, DCP (west). The Police said they are trying to locate the
There were some calls from anxious parents who said terrorists had entered the schools and they wanted protection for their children.
“Half-an-hour before the school was about to get over, we saw many guardians gathering at the gates of the school. They wanted to know whether their children were safe or not. We dispersed the children half-an-hour early and handed them over to their guardians,” said S.K. Sharma, an employee at Sasvitri Devi Sanjeevani Public School.
The other schools that received the calls were BR Public School, Gagan Bharti Public School, Kendriya Vidyalaya in Hastsal, Kamal Model School, Red Rose Model School, Adarsh Vidyalaya, an MCD school, and the Uttam Nagar police station.
