"If there were intelligence reports about a possible terror attack, then why was no action taken. Those who are trying to control the Intelligence Bureau for vote-bank should think about this," said BJP leader Ravishankar Prasad.
"It's disturbing that such an important temple site was attacked. This temple is an important site for the whole nation," he said.
Echoing similar sentiments, BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar also condemned the attack, saying that both centre and the state governments should have taken stern steps to ensure that such acts don't happen again.
Two people have been injured in a series of blasts inside the Mahabodhi temple in Bihar's Bodhgaya district on Sunday morning.
According to reports, the first blast took place inside the temple complex shortly after 5 a.m., followed by seven successive explosions.
Another bomb was reportedly found near the temple, and was defused.
The police and security forces are combing the area. Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has left for Bodh Gaya for an on the spot assessment of the situation.
