A little over two days before the city goes to polls, the Mumbai terror attacks have left Delhi stunned.Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit, however, said things were under control in the city.

Speaking to HT on Thursday, Dikshit said she was personally monitoring Delhi’s security situation. “I have spoken to the police chief. The security cover is very strong in Delhi. We are constantly monitoring the situation with the police and lieutenant-governor. Things are under control,” she said.

Asked if there were fears that the Mumbai attack may affect the voter turnout on Saturday, Dikshit said, “I can’t predict the turnout. We have to wait and see. What has happened in Mumbai is tragic. We all are emotionally connected to it, but Delhi is safe.”

Taking on the BJP’s attack on the Congress’s “soft stance on terror”, Dikshit said terror attacks should not be trivialised by politics.

“We should keep politics completely out of it. This is about the integrity of the country. Is politics something more important than the country?” she asked.
