Normal life in many parts of the Capital was adversely affected after heavy downpour on Saturday. Passengers had a tough time reaching the airport due to traffic jam on the stretch leading to it from Hauz Khas and also on the Ring Road.

Traffic snarls were reported from Aurbindo Marg, Lodhi Road Cremation Ground, Pusa Road, Sadar Thana Road, Rohtak Road, Mother Teressa Cresent to Ramakrishna Ashram Marg, Akbar Road-Man Singh Road stretch, Purana Killa Road, Ram Manohar Lohia roundabout, Azadpur Underpass due to water logging and Maulana Azad Road, Mandir Marg T-point due to tree uprooted, said official sources.

According to a senior traffic policeman, situation was manageable in major parts of the Central and South Delhi. Traffic movement was stalled for hours near flyover as the under bridge was inundated with water following heavy rains. Ramavtar Sharma said, “When I reached Anand Parvat, water started entering my car.”

According to Ajay Chadha, special commissioner of police (Traffic), “Situation would have been worse had this been not a Saturday."

The traffic department officials anticipated that rainfall overnight and on Sunday morning might worsen the situation.
