Veteran Congress leader Kapil Sibal was on Thursday given charge of the human resource development ministry, while two other MPs from the capital, Ajay Maken and Krishna Tirath, were named ministers of state for home and for women and child development, respectively.
Sibal, who represents Chandni Chowk constituency, replaces Arjun Singh as the HRD minister in the portfolio allocations announced late on Thursday.
He was minister of state for science and technology in the previous Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government.
Maken, who represents New Delhi constituency, will be minister of state for home. He was minister of state for urban development in the previous government.
Tirath (Karol Bagh constituency), a first-time minister, has been given the independent charge of the women and child development ministry.
