South Delhi Police have nabbed members of a gang that allegedly kidnapped a second-year student of Delhi University's Ram Lal Anand College a month ago.

The family of the youth paid Rs35 lakh to secure his release. The youth had been abducted on March 1.

"At 10am, when I reached the college parking lot and was getting down from my car, four persons in the age group 25-30, abruptly entered my car, manhandled me and drove the car to Haryana," the youth said.

"They called his father from his mobile phone and demanded a ransom money of Rs3 crore. The amount was finally settled at Rs35 lakh. His father paid them Rs35 lakh in Haryana, after which he was released," said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south).

The police have arrested three persons in the case. "Rajesh Kumar, 29, Jitender Dikshit, 22 and Sandeep Chikkara, 21 have been arrested in the case. They are all residents of Haryana. Rajesh is also accused of murdering his father," added Dhaliwal.

"The kidnapping was executed professionally. The gang had two teams. While the first team worked on kidnapping and bargaining for ransom, the other was tasked to receive ransom money," added Dhaliwal.
