Three persons, including the victim’s sister, his employer and a contract killer, were arrested for the murder of a 25-year-old man in northeast Delhi’s Gokulpuri, police said on Monday.
Sanjay Kumar Jain, deputy commissioner of police (northeast), said Salim had been murdered at the behest of his own sister Shama who had approached his employer and her paramour, Manish, for the same.
Consequently, a local criminal and contract killer, Shakeel, was hired to get rid of Salim, who was found strangulated to death on June 4.
“Manish was Salim’s friend and used to visit his house often. He soon got involved in a relationship with Salim’s sister Shama. When he found out about this affair, Salim objected,” said DCP Jain.
Due to his objection to their relationship, police said, Salim used to abuse Shama. Found to have been involved in several criminal activities, Salim was used to getting drunk at home and used to humiliate both his sister and mother.
Police said it was due to the maltreatment that she and her mother had to face at the hands of Salim, that Shama conspired with Manish to eliminate her brother who, in turn, hired Shakeel to execute the task and was promised Rs 50,000 in return.
“On May 3, Manish and Shakeel decided to kill Salim, reached his house as per their plan and took him with them to go to Manish’s nephew’s birthday party.
“Salim was taken to Yamuna Vihar where the trio consumed alcohol laced with sleeping pills,” said DCP Jain. When Salim fell unconscious, both Manish and Shakeel strangulated him with a clutch wire, before throwing his body at the Ganda Nala Pulia in Bhagirathi Vihar before fleeing the spot.
“We suspected Manish from the start and were able to crack him while questioning. He was one of the first people to join Salim’s family to pretend to condole them for their tragedy. When we confronted him, he broke down and confessed to the crime. Shama and Shakeel were arrested at his instance,” Jain added.
