Around 40 people were on way to Kalindi Kunj from Kapashera to immerse the idol when the accident took place on Nelson Mandela Road in Vasant Kunj around 2.45 pm, a senior police official said.

The speeding truck first hit a road divider and then turned turtle, the official said.

Ajit and the unidentified man succumbed to injuries in hospital while Satyanarayan died on the spot.

Out of the 38 injured, 27 are undergoing treatment in AIIMS Trauma Centre while 12 are admitted in Safdurjung. Two are taken to the Indian Spinal Injuries Centre.

All the victims are in the age group of 25 to 30 years and are residents of Kapashera.
