Janta Colony locality

An elderly couple and their daughter were injured when the roof of their house collapsed due to an explosion in the steam press (boiler) installed at their house in the Welcome area in northeast Delhi.

The incident took place around 3am in Janta Colony locality in Welcome.

The victims have been identified as Shabbir (65) his wife Zora (60) and their daughter Mumtaz (22). They were asleep when the incident took place, said police.

Four fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire that broke out following the blast. Firemen and rescue teams had to face difficulties in taking the fire tenders to the spot since the lanes were very narrow.

A senior police officer said that the incident came to their notice through a PCR call made by one of the neighbours.

Local police along with the rescue team reached the spot and rescued the victims who were trapped under the debris. They were rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital for medical attention.
