Three persons, including a woman, died and 21 others were critically injured in an accident on NH-24 near Garhmukeshwar.
Police said three from a family in Delhi were in a UP state roadways bus bound for Pilibhit. The bus tried to overtake a truck coming from Moradabad near Badarkha crossing. But it had a head-on collision with a truck from the opposite direction.
The dead included Rahul Saxena, Pradeep Saxena and Reena Saxena from Delhi.
The incident took lace around 11 in the morning on Saturday.
“It was the bus driver's fault as he was under the influence of alcohol. Earlier too the bus had had a small accident on the route and the passengers had pulled up the drunk bus driver,” said Garhmukteshwar Station Officer R.P. Sant.
The truck driver, helper and other injured were admitted to two hospitals in Garh. The errant bus driver fled after the accident, police said.
No arrests have been made so far in the case.
