A three-and-a-half-year-old girl was allegedly abducted, raped and murdered by her 47-year-old uncle in northeast Delhi, police said.
“The victim went missing from her Harsh Vihar residence on Thursday (November 25). When her family approached us, we immediately registered a kidnapping case,” said Sanjay Jain, deputy commissioner police (northeast). “Her body was recovered from Loni area in Ghaziabad on Monday.”
The investigators refused to divulge the identities of either the victim’s father or the accused, keeping the sensitive nature of the case in mind. The accused is a cousin of the victim’s father.
A senior police officer from the investigation team said the victim’s father, an autorickshaw driver, met with an accident on November 20 and the accused first saw the victim when he paid them a visit on November 22.
Police said the accused revisited the victim’s home on November 24 with the intention to kidnap the girl.
“After sitting with his cousin for a while, the accused lured the girl away. He took her to a desolate area in Loni (6 km from the Delhi border), raped and strangulated her and returned to Delhi,” the officer said.
The police questioned the accused when they found out he was the last person seen with the victim. The accused broke-down and confessed to the crime on Monday, police said.
“We have arrested him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code,” Jain said.
