Delhi Congress leaders will visit famous street food joints such as Sitaram chholey bhaturewala in Paharganj, Parathe wali Gali in Chandni Chowk, Bittu Tikki Wala in Rani Bagh Market, and Maggi joints in North Campus to woo voters for April 23 municipal elections.
Delhi Congress chief Ajay Maken said since the party is not relying on big rallies, it is focusing on door-to-door contact programmes.
“The emphasis will be on door-to-door canvassing. Our slogan is ‘Dil ki Baat, Dilli ke Saath’. We will interact with people at street food points, fruit and vegetable markets, and parks and gardens,” he said.
The first such interaction will be held on March 25 at an eating joint at Bharat Nagar, which is popular for its chaat. The party has prepared a list of 50 eateries where such meetings will be organised.
“We will launch our election campaign on Saturday at a popular chaat outlet in Bharat Nagar. We will discuss various issues that the residents are facing,” Maken said.
“We have planned 200 small meetings across in the city. In each of these meetings, senior leaders will discuss different issues, achievements of the Congress government during its 15 years’ rule in Delhi. The party will use digital platforms to reach out to the voters. We will hold discussions on Facebook lives,” he said.
To manage its social media campaign, the Congress will set up two digital war rooms. “For the purpose, the party will engage around a dozen experts who will design Facebook and social media campaign plan,” the Congress leader said.
On Wednesday evening, Maken also addressed a gathering of residents of slum cluster, unauthorised and resettlement colonies at Talkatora Stadium. Speaking on the occasion, he promised that if the Congress comes to power in municipalities, a dedicated fund of Rs 2,000 crore would be created for their development.
