The Aam Aadmi Party launched ‘Spot The Kachra (garbage)’ on Friday to corner the BJP-ruled municipal corporations over lack of sanitation in the city.

The campaign comes at a time when the city is battling a public health crisis due to spurt in mosquito-borne diseases such as dengue and chikungunya. Civic bodies are facing flak for failing to prevent mosquito breeding.

Senior AAP leaders said the campaign aims to inform the city residents that maintaining hygiene and sanitation is the responsibility of the civic bodies.

“Due to multiplicity of agencies in Delhi, sometimes people forget that it is BJP’s MCD which has to keep the city clean,” said Ashish Talwar, in-charge of AAP Delhi unit .

“Through the campaign, the AAP volunteers will highlight that it is MCD’s inaction that has led to the present crisis,” said Talwar.

“The MCDs collapsed both functionally and operationally. The BJP has failed in municipal governance over the past decade,” said Dilip Pandey, Delhi convenor, AAP.

Last week, AAP volunteers led by party legislators and leaders started a fumigation drive across the city. Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal launched a special month-long fumigation drive across the city on Thursday.
