The first weekend of the India International Trade Fair this year was marked by massive traffic snarls in areas around central and New Delhi.
On Saturday, the first day of the trade fair, saw Connaught Place, Pragati Maidan, Mathura Road, India Gate roundabout, Bhagwan Dass Road and Tilak Marg remained packed with vehicles.
A similar situation was seen on Sunday when the jams extended till Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Mother Teresa Crescent, Teen Murti, Ashoka Road and Sardar Patel Marg.
Jams were also witnessed at Purana Qila Marg, Sher Shar Marg, Ring Road and Subramaniam Bharti Marg.
Despite heavy deployment of traffic officials around the venue, vehicles were seen parked on the sides of the road creating a bottleneck for the passage of vehicles.
“We have ordered our officials to take strict action against any motorist creating nuisance and blocking the general passage of vehicles. Ample shuttle services from around central Delhi have been provided so visitors can park their vehicles at the pickup points and ride the bus for a hassle-free commute,” said joint commissioner of police (traffic), Sandeep Goel.
For visitors, park and ride facilities are available from Rajpath, C-Hexagon, Mansingh Road, Dr Zakir Hussain radial, Shahjahan Road radial, KG Marg radial and Tilak Marg radial roads.
The parking lot of the Delhi Zoo will also be open for visitors. However, usual parking fee will be charged.
Sandeep Goel also said that the vehicles found parked on these roads will be towed and violators will be fined ` 600 (excluding towing charges) for improper parking and disobedience of lawful instructions.
The U-turns on Mathura Road, on all cuts from W-point and T-point with Subramaniam Bharti Marg will also be prohibited on these days. Right turn from Mathura Road to Purana Qila will be closed till November 27.
The venue will also be kept on close watch by the police to monitor any antisocial activity.
