A day after an inebriated Delhi Traffic Police constable allegedly misbehaved with a couple in northwest Delhi, a 30-year-old woman has alleged that two drunken men — including a Delhi Traffic Police constable, raped her in a moving car in the New Delhi area — on the same night.

Police identified the accused as Traffic Constable Manoj Kumar (25) and his associate, Sudhir Kumar (24).

“The victim, who hails from Orissa and works as an agent with a private insurance firm in the city, reported the incident at the CP Police Station last evening,” said Dharmendra Kumar Joint CP (New Delhi Range).

According to police, the incident comes a month after Manoj, who was posted as a traffic constable at the Chanakyapuri circle, befriended the victim.

“The two used to bump into each other near the victim's office located in Chanakyapuri,” said a senior police officer.

“They became friends and even exchanged contact numbers last month.” Police said the victim is a resident of south Delhi's Lajpat Nagar area where she stays at a rented accommodation with her 4-year-old daughter.

“On Sunday night, the duo had dinner with the victim at her southeast Delhi home before taking her away in the car on the pretext of going for a drive. They purchased beer from a local liquor vendor in Chanakyapuri,” the officer said.

After the victim was sufficiently intoxicated, the inebriated duo took turns to rape her in the moving vehicle's backseat. The car is registered in Sudhir's name.

“She was dropped back at her Chanakyapuri residence after a couple of hours.”

Police said the victim was subjected to a medical examination immediately after she made a complaint at the CP Police Station.

“We arrested Constable Manoj and Sudhir after the victim's medical exam confirmed sexual assault,” said the officer.

Police said a case of rape had been registered at the CP Police Station. “We have registered a case against both the accused and investigations are underway,” added Joint CP Kumar.
