A traffic police constable has been arrested for killing his wife just because he did not want her to continue with her job. The woman worked with Delhi Police.
The man’s brother, a Delhi Police constable, and his mother have also been arrested for the crime. Police sources said the woman, Santosh, 30, was posted with the PCR wing of Delhi Police, but her in-laws wanted her to quit the job.
The victim’s husband and his elder brother were arrested last week. “We arrested Virender Singh, 33, who was posted in Sarita Vihar, and his elder brother Narendra Singh, 42, who was posted with the Sangam Vihar police station,” a police officer said, requesting anonymity.
The police said Virender had killed Santosh on September 26 and cremated the body at their hometown, Baghpat. An inquiry was initiated on a complaint by the victim’s brother and the accused were arrested.
Santosh, who was living with her in-laws in Shakarpur police colony, had reportedly made a PCR call on September 26. “She had said her relatives would kill her. When our team reached there, the house was locked. The neighbours said the couple had a fight and left after that,” he said.
Sources said the couple used to fight often as Virender’s family did not wanted Santosh to continue with her job. On September 25, they fought again after which Virender killed Santosh. “After strangulating her, he called his elder brother who lives in Kondli. They took the body in a car to Baghpat and cremated her,” the officer said.
