Transporter rapes driver’s wife; held

delhi Updated: Oct 23, 2011 23:12 IST

A 58-year-old businessman was arrested for allegedly sedating, abducting and then sexually assaulting his driver’s pregnant wife in Rohini, police said on Sunday.

The 28-year-old victim approached the local police on October 19 and alleged Jagjit Singh, who runs a transport business in Mangolpuri, had sedated her before driving her all the way to a hotel in Chandigarh to sexually assault her four days ago, the police said.

“The victim was taken for a medical examination and Singh was questioned when the said examination indicated sexual assault. During interrogation, he told that the victim, who is two months pregnant, and her husband were having strained relations which he was aware of and accordingly took advantage of,” said a senior police officer.

Singh, who is married with two children, would frequent the couple’s house and would often meet the victim since her husband was his employee.

“On October 15, he called the victim near the Jaipur Golden Hospital on the pretext of sorting out her issues with her husband. There, he asked her to sit inside the car. Shortly after, during their conversation, he offered her a cold drink which was laced with a sedative,” the officer said.

As the victim fell unconscious Singh drove to Chandigarh. The next day, he dropped her at the same spot. Singh has been arrested and charged for rape.
