A local travel agency may be using something as innocent as your children’s drawings to get access to your hard-earned money. According to a group of residents from Dwarka, after a child’s drawing won an intra-housing society competition, representatives of Awesome Holidays, the travel company, hustled them into purchasing lifetime memberships.
“We were promised a three-night, four-day stay at any location in the country at what they claimed was a discount,” said AK Pandey, a practising lawyer.
Pandey ended up paying Rs 51,750 to the company just like Indu Khatreja, a 48-year-old housewife who also stays in sector 14. “The same company approached my family in April and asked me to pay ‘only’ Rs 22,000 for a lifetime membership. But when we wanted to avail the scheme, they told us to make our own arrangements,” Khatreja said.
Pandey stays in Dwarka sector 14 and has filed a criminal case of cheating and criminal conspiracy against the company.
