A 60-year-old businessman was killed when a truck hit his Honda City car from behind and dragged it into another truck. His 27-year-old son, who was also in the car, was seriously injured.

Police said the incident was reported from Delhi Cantonment in southwest Delhi on Thursday night at around 11:15 pm.

Ravinder Kumar, a prominent Gurgaon businessman, was a resident of Tagore Garden in West Delhi.

"Kumar was into export business. Last night, he and his son Ankit were returning home when the accident happened. Their car was stuck between two trucks on the road. Near Mahipalpur traffic signal, the truck that was behind them hit them. The truck did not stop, but dragged the car with it and it hit the other truck ahead," said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to the media.

Passersby called the police. Police had to use gas cutters to rescue those inside.

Police took them to AIIMS Trauma Center where Kumar was declared brought dead. Ankit was admitted for treatment and discharged in the evening.

“The accused truck driver fled from the spot. Police have impounded the truck and registered a case of rash and negligent driving against him,” said the officer.
