A recklessly driven truck ran over an 18-year-old on a two-wheeler and dragged him for four kilometres in South Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar on Monday night.
Two of Fahad’s friends, identified as Gaurav and Shivam, who were riding pillion with him, jumped on to the side of the truck and hung on to the window as the driver tried to escape.
The duo told police that the driver refused to stop despite repeated requests and kept speeding with Fahad stuck on the bumper.
They said the driver and cleaner abused them, beat them with rods and tried to push them off the vehicle at least twice.
Fahad’s body was mutilated after being dragged against the road, said police.
The killer driver and cleaner, identified as Abdul Gaffar and Mohammad Saikul, were arrested following a four-kilometre chase during which several police teams and PCR vans were pressed into action.
The truck managed to cross a couple of police check points before hitting one of the barricades, nearly killing one police staff.
The three teenagers worked for an event management company and were returning home after work when their scooty was hit by the truck near Captain Gaur Marg-Ring Road crossing in Lajpat Nagar area. Fahad, who was driving the two-wheeler, was stuck between the truck’s bumper and axle.
“The truck driver slowed down at first but started driving again with Fahad dangling on the bumper. Shivam and I asked the driver to stop. They abused us instead and kept speeding towards South Extension,” said Gaurav, adding the cleaner hit him with an iron rod when he grabbed his neck.
According to Shivam, he managed to cling onto the window of the vehicle while Gaurav climbed onto the bonnet. “I called out to Fahad asked whether he was okay. He said he was unhurt but his grip was slipping,” said Gaurav.
Fahad’s mutilated body rolled out from under the truck near the Siri Fort crossing. The truck was eventually intercepted at a police picket in Malviya Nagar where a truck was placed across the road as a barricade..
