Two persons were arrested from Lucknow by a team of Delhi Police for their alleged involvement in the murder of a jeweller during a robbery in his shop 22 days ago, police said today.
Mohd Sabir and Mohd Anis were apprehended from Lucknow yesterday for allegedly shooting to death Gaurav Gambhir of Gambhir Jewellers in Krishna Nagar on the evening of February 23.
With their arrests, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) O P Mishra claimed that the police have solved another robbery committed by the members of the same gang on February one at Padmini Jewellers in the same locality.
The murder of Gambhir had irked the locals, who later staged protests.
The initial investigations suggested that such a crime could have been carried out by persons who are familiar with the entry and exit routes of the location as the shop is situated in a very densely populated market with multiple entry and exit points. A massive verification drive of all dacoits, robbers, snatchers and auto-lifters of the area was done.
During verification of the dacoits and robbers, police zeroed in on a gang involved in a 2006 case.
