Manoj Sharma, father of DU student Aakash, believes that had his son come to pick him up at the right airport terminal he would be alive today.
Sharma had come from Chattisgarh to the Capital to attend an expo at Pragati Maidan.
His flight had landed on Monday night and Aakash and his cousin Vikas had gone to pick him up. Manoj had come to Delhi with four friends by an Indigo flight.
"At 9:30pm, we reached the Delhi airport and Aakash called saying he was waiting outside the Airport metro station. But we had landed at Terminal 1D and asked Manoj to come with us our Karol Bagh, where we were staying. He then called Aakash, who requested his father to let him attend a birthday party and said he would pick up Manoj after that," said Om Sharma, a relative of the victim.
"Manoj had come to spend some time with his son but now he is returning with his body," he added.
Aakash, a student of School of Open Learning, is survived by an elder brother and sister. He was living in a rented accommodation at Laxmi Nagar.
The father of another victim, Mayank Pratap Chauhan, couldn't gather enough courage to board the flight to Delhi after he got to know about his youngest son's death.
"Mayank's father UBS Chauhan is city superintendent of police at Durg district in Chattisgarh and was involved in many operations against Naxals. We had told him that Mayank is in ICU but when he reached Raipur airport someone informed him about the death. He just returned home and didn't board the flight. We will take his body to his hometown," Sunil Nayak, a relative of Mayank's said.
Police said quick response by eyewitnesses saved the life of the two injured. They are critical but stable.
