The south Delhi police on Thursday arrested two persons for cheating people on the pretext of installing cell phone towers on their property.

The arrested persons have been identified as Chetan Kumar aka Lucky Chaudhary, 24, and Manish Verma, 28, both hailing from Ghaziabad in UP.

According to police, the gang operated from temporary offices in Delhi and NCR. They had employed young girls to make calls and entice customers. They usually targeted people from small cities by publishing advertisement in newspapers.

The accused travelled in a Safari SUV fitted with hi-tech gadgets. A sophisticated camera was also installed on the back side of the vehicle, so they could be warned if they were followed or chased by the police, a senior police officer said.

Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south) said in the last one year, the gang had cheated more than 20 people of over R25 lakh. The case came to notice after a serving BSF constable lodged a complaint.
