Two former students of the Jamia Millia Islamia University have been arrested for allegedly beating up 18-year-old Shahrukh Shaheer to death on Tuesday, police said.
The police said a minor scuffle over using an elevator lead to the death of the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) student.
“One of the accused Sahil is the nephew of an assistant sub-inspector of Delhi Police. The other accused has been identified as one Aijas from Mewat, Rajasthan.
Around a week ago, the accused, along with two others, had a scuffle with the victim, who had allegedly challenged them by grabbing them by the scruff of their necks,” said a senior police officer.
According to police, Sahil, Aijas and two of their accomplices — Rashid and Hasin — coaxed Shahrukh Shaheer to come to the Ansari Health Club outside the university's campus on Tuesday. All four accused are believed to be in their 20s, police said, adding that the arrested duo had been expelled from the university on charges of eve teasing in 2009.
“They called Shahrukh to the club on the pretext of sorting out their differences,” he said.
