Two 19-year-old youths, one of whom was inspired by the Sanjay Dutt-starrer ‘Vaastav’ to enter the world of crime and had ambitions of meeting the ‘real underworld dons’, were arrested in west Delhi for their alleged involvement in a series of robbery and vehicle thefts, police said on Monday.

Identified as Vinod, the ‘inspired’ goon and his associate, Ranjeet, the duo was apprehended from Mundka on Sunday afternoon based on a tip-off, said V Renganathan, additional commissioner of police (west).

“They were active throughout Delhi and used to rob victims at gunpoint. If any of their victims opposed them, they would be attacked. With their arrest, more than a dozen incidents of robberies and snatchings have been solved,” said additional CP Renganathan.

The duo’s most recent involvement had been in the execution of a robbery at Punjabi Bagh on April 4. Their victim Ram Chander Chobe, a driver, had been intercepted at the Ganda Nala area near Karampura around 1am before being stabbed in the stomach and robbed.

On April 14, the accused were arrested at the Rani Khera mod, based on a tip-off.
