Two labourers died after they fell in the sewage tank of a cold storage in Keshav Puram on Wednesday night.

The police said that one of them had entered the tank to clean it but lost balance and fell into the deep water. When the second labourer tried to save him, he also lost his balance and was drowned.

“Mohammad Ali Hafiz (40) and Sarfaraz (42) were working with the factory at Lawrence road industrial area since the last five years. Hafiz had gone to clean the tank at the basement of the factory. He had tied himself with a rope but lost balance and fell into the tank,” a senior police officer said.

Other labourers rushed to the site and informed the police and the fire department. After hours of rescue work, their bodies were recovered.

“They were taken to a nearby hospital where doctors declared them brought dead. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination,” the officer added.

Hafiz was a resident of Zakhira and Sarfaraz used to live in Nagloi.

A case of causing death due to negligence has been registered against the factory management but no one has been arrested so far. Further investigations are on in the case.
