The northwest Delhi police arrested two men who allegedly murdered their teenaged friend to take revenge on his father.
According to the police, the victim’s father allegedly assaulted the two accused after he caught them smoking marijuana in 2009.
The police said the accused Dinesh and Yogesh allegedly beat the victim Gaurav, 18, to death on December 13, 2010.
The two 28-year-olds were arrested on Friday.
“The victim’s father had told us that about a year ago he had quarrelled twice with Yogesh who used to take his son to smoke. He had beaten up Yogesh who later threatened that he would kill Gaurav whenever he got the chance,” said Meenu Choudhury, deputy commissioner of police (northwest).
This information led the investigators to Yogesh and Dinesh.
Initially, the police questioned several bus drivers and conductors who use to park their buses near the place of incident in Jahangirpuri who told them that several young men used to gather there to smoke pot.
“It came to light that the victim and the two accused were spotted in the locality on that day. Yogesh was arrested, following which Dinesh was also apprehended,” the DCP said.
Yogesh told the police that he beat Gaurav while Dinesh strangled him. According to the police, Dinesh was declared a bad character of the area.
