Two pavement dwellers came under the wheels of a speeding car in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar around midnight on Monday.
Police said a first year Delhi University student, Ankit Arora, was driving to his friend's house when he lost control of his car and ran over the two men.
The deceased men are yet to be identified, police said.
The Khalsa College student has been booked for rash driving and causing death by rash and negligent driving at Tilak Nagar police station. His car has been impounded.
Police said Arora's medical examination report said he wasn't drunk at the time of the accident.
The youngster lost control of his car as he was speeding and one of the tyres got punctured, following which his car hit the pavement and mowed down the sleeping men, police said.
The police added that Arora had reached the Tilak Nagar flyover when he lost control of his Toyota Corolla car. He was headed to Kirti Nagar from his Janakpuri house.
A senior police officer on condition of anonymity said, "Ankit was so shocked after hitting them that he kept sitting in his car and did not move for several minutes (sic.)."
The police said a bystander called the police around 12:25am informing about the accident.
The two men were taken to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where they were declared brought dead. The police said both the men were in their early 30s and they are trying to locate their families.
Arora told the police that he had left his house in Janakpuri and was going to meet to his friend.
"He told us that he does not remember what happened as he went completely blank," added the officer.
