A group of villagers from Ramgarh shot at two operators, assaulted the manager and looted Rs. 1.75 lakh from the Haryana State Road Bridge Development Corporation(HSRDC) toll booth on the Sohna-Alwar highway on Thursday night. The incident took place after the victims allegedly refused to pay the extortion money.

Atish Singh was shot in his leg while Rajesh Singh received bullet in his arm. Dhirender Shukla, manager, was also injured and all were rushed to a private hospital in Islampur.

The accused, armed with pistols, iron rods and sticks, attacked the toll operators and the management around 9pm.

“The attackers came in groups and opened fire and assaulted our staff. Earlier too they had threatened and demanded Rs. 5 lakh from us,” said Shukla.

After getting the contract in February this year, the present management has been threatened and assaulted several times by the villagers. “We had complained to the administration a number of times but no action was taken,” added Shukla.

The toll management has submitted the CCTV footage to the police and 11 attackers have been identified. No arrests have been made yet. The Badshahpur police have registered attempt to murder and rioting cases against 19 people, including eight unknown.

Last year, in September 23, Umesh Kant Pandey was shot dead at Kherki Daula toll booth over Rs. 27. The accused was arrested after three days.
