The government has appointed P Uma Shankar as the new power secretary. Shankar took charge on April 30, official sources said.
He succeeds HS Brahma who has retired.
Shankar, an IAS officer of the 1976 batch beloging to the UP cadre was chairman and managing director of Rural Electrification Corp.
Shankar, 56, holds a Masters degree in mathematics from the IIT-Chennai and in another in social policy and planning from the London School of Economics.
