Unmukt gets support; Rs. 25 lakh reward

India's Under-19 cricket captain, Unmukt Chand's plight became a case in point for members of the legislative Assembly (MLA) at the Delhi assembly on Tuesday. They debated over relaxing the administrative rigours that sportspersons in the country are made to endure.
MLAs demanded that sportspersons, irrespective of their game, should be exempted from prescribed attendance requirements.
"There should be no distinction between academic and sports excellence. People who are good at either should be treated equally. The centre should introduce a new rule to ensure sportspersons don't have to face limitations that Chand had to face," said Vijay Kumar Malhotra, leader of opposition.
The Delhi government on Tuesday also announced a Rs. 25 lakh reward for Chand.
"I hope he goes on to fill the shoes of veterans like Sachin Tendulkar and others," said chief minister Sheila Dikshit.
