UNPA to raise 'targeting' of opp leaders
UNPA threatens to raise in Parliament, the issue of 'targeting' its leaders like Jayalalithaa and Mulayam Singh Yadav by the CBI.
Trouble could be brewing for the government ahead of the Monsoon session of Parliament with the UNPA on Saturday threatening to raise the issue of 'targeting' of its leaders like Jayalalithaa and Mulayam Singh Yadav by the CBI and planning to put Finance Minister P Chidambaram in the dock.
"The way Congress members had singled out Defence Minister George Fernandes during the NDA rule for attack, the UNPA will do it for Chidambaram," Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh said addressing a joint press conference along with other UNPA leaders.
After a meeting of the Alliance at the residence of INLD chief Om Prakash Chautala, he accused the finance minister of having "dictatorial tendencies".
Singh alleged that Chidambaram was out to harass the AIADMK supremo as he was "freezing" her bank accounts and the situation was so serious that she felt problem to pay for petty expenses.
He charged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress President Sonia Gandhi with being involved in the campaign to harass Yadav in the disproportionate assets case.
Singh said that the UNPA MPs would meet before the session to chalk out their strategy.
"All of us here are CBI returned," Amar Singh remarked when asked whether the Alliance leaders have turned 'panicky' following CBI actions, suggesting that such things were not new to the Front leaders.
The meeting also passed a resolution demanding a judicial enquiry in the killing of FCI official P C Ram, who was kidnapped by ULFA, in Assam.
"The UNPA expresses its concern over the fast deterioration of law and order in Assam and the way the government is handling the situation. It is turning from bad to worse as evidenced from the number of bomb blast there resulting in killing of innocent people, which has become a regular feature", it said.
Besides, it wanted immediate intervention from the Centre for the peaceful settlement of the border disputes in the northeast.
