A Delhi court is likely to pronounce its verdict on Saturday in the sensational six-year-old Budha Jayanti park gang rape case involving four members of the prestigious President's Bodyguards Group.
Additional Sessions Judge S K Saravaria has fixed the pronouncement of judgement for Saturday.
Harpreet Singh, Satyender Singh, Kuldeep Singh and Manish Kumar, belonging to cavalier security guards of the elite PBG, were booked under various provisions of the IPC, dealing with gang rape, abduction and attempt to commit robbery.
The victim, 17, a student of a Delhi University college, had gone with her boyfriend Ashish to the park near Rashtrapati Bhavan on October 6, 2003 and was raped by Harpreet and Satender while the other two accused Kuldeep and Manish kept guard, the prosecution said.
Concluding final arguments in the case, the public prosecutor had said the accused had ravished the victim almost in the backyard of the presidential palace when she had gone there with her friend for sight-seeing.
Additional public prosecutor Devender Kumar examined 25 witnesses, including the victim and her friend Ashish, to prove its case. Rebutting the arguments, Ranbir Sharma, counsel for key accused Harpreet, alleged frame-up in the case.
He also rubbished the recovery of various articles such as the victim's handkerchief and a doll, that too, two days
after the incident.
