The villagers of Ferozpur Jirka in Mewat district allegedly killed a leopard on Saturday. Reports said the leopard attacked some of the villagers working in fields around noon in Luhanga Kala village near Punhana. The injured villagers called for help, which led to others rushing to the spot. The mob then beat up the animal with lathis and iron rods.
“I immediately sent sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) of Firozpur Jirka to the spot,” said CR Rana, deputy commissioner, Mewat. “I sent the injured men to a local hospital in Mewat for treatment,” said SDM Umed Mohan. “By then, the animal had been killed.”
“The villagers did not tell us how they killed the animal,” he added. “The forest officials took the carcass to Nuhu for postmortem examination,” Mohan said. “The case will be investigated,” he added. “A case under Wildlife Act 1872 has been registered against unknown,” said Dhan Singh, station house officer, Punhana police station.
