Ek Kahani Yeh Bhi
Vyas Samman, apart from another top literary recognition for outstanding writers, the Saraswati Samman, is given annually by the foundation and carries a cash component of Rs 2.50 lakh.
Bhandari’s memoir, which marks a departure from traditional autobiographical writing techniques, delves on her life experiences to present the Indian women’s oscillation between work and domestic responsibilities.
An eminent panel, led by the former head of the University of Lucknow’s Hindi department, Surya Prasad Dixit, selected Bhandari’s work.
Bhandari went to college in Kolkata and taught in Ballygunge Siksha Sadan before shifting to Delhi’s Miranda House and retired from active teaching in 1991. A leading literary figure, her career spans five novels and eight story books that are counted among some of the finest works of our time.
