Taking exception to the increasing “apathy” of male officers in handling crime against women, Delhi High Court on Thursday asked the state be cautious while recruiting a person accused of gender crimes into the police force, even if the man has been acquitted, Harish V Nair reports.

The remarks of the high court came as it allowed an appeal filed by Delhi Police against an order of Central Administrative Tribunal for the appointment of one Ajit Tomar as a constable. Tomar was accused but later acquitted of teasing girls of an airhostess institute in Meerut.
