If you feel you have not scored well enough to get the course of your dreams in the college of your choice, do not lose heart yet. Delhi University provides students the opportunity to migrate to their preferred college if they perform well in their first-year examination.

“If a student cannot get admission to his/her college of choice, there is a possibility of migrating later if the student has performed well in the first year exams,” said S.K. Vij, DU’s dean students’ welfare. “We offer them this facility and if they score good marks, they can use it,” he said. There are, however, some riders involved.

“Though Delhi University allows migration, the student should have a no objection certificate from both the college they are leaving and the one they would join,” he said. The last day for migration is October 16.

Principal of a prominent south Delhi college said that though it was not uncommon for students to migrate from a lower-rung college to a better one, especially the toppers, getting the no-objection certificate is not easy. “As it is, the lower rung colleges do not get the best of the lot, why would they want to part with their crème?” she said.

If you have scored well, however, it is not difficult to get a no-objection certificate from a top-rung college. “We allow students from other colleges to migrate, it does happen,” said Pratibha Jolly, principal of Miranda House College. There is, however, no fixed cut-off marks for migrating to a college. “The marks based on which a college will admit a student in the second year varies from college to college,” Vij said.
