Thousands of lawyers, from different parts of the country, took out a march in the Capital on Wednesday to protest amendments in the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) that give police discretion whether to arrest accused in offences punishable with a seven-year jail term.
Lawyers stayed away from courts for the second consecutive day, paralysing work and putting litigants and witnesses to inconvenience. Till now, they have struck work in district courts on six occasions in the last one and half months.
Meanwhile, the Delhi High Court Bar Association observed a day-long hunger strike to support the protesting lawyers. They were also protesting against the inclusion of advocates within the ambit of the new annexment of Limited Liability Partnership Act.
