You can now pass the time that you spend waiting for your train at the New Delhi railway station by surfing the internet, listening to music, or even watching movies online, that too free of cost.
The New Delhi station will soon provide travellers free wifi access on its platforms. You be able to use this free service through your laptops or smart phones.
“The trial run has begun on platforms one and two. We will be able to provide high-speed internet with 2 mbps speed,” said a senior railway officer.
To make sure there’s no security breach, the passengers will have to enter their mobile number in the connection tab as soon as they connect their laptops to the wifi network. A password would soon be sent to their mobile phones through which they would be able to use the internet for 30 minutes. The user would have to log into the network again after the designated 30 minutes are over. “According to government guidelines, we’ll be storing the phone numbers of users for over a year. It will curb misuse of the internet facility,” the officer said. “If successful, the service would also be provided at all major Delhi railway stations,” the officer added.
The officer also said that the Railways will add more servers and may even bring a private technology partner on board depending on the internet usage of the passengers.
“We will make this service available on all three platforms. If successful, the service would also be provided at all major Delhi railway stations,” the officer added.
