The Congress has indicated that the alleged financial irregularities committed by the BJP-ruled MCD in the last five years may be probed if the party comes to power in the April 15 municipal polls.
Alleging widespread corruption by the ruling BJP in the civic body, a top Delhi Congress leader said serious irregularities in MCD will be probed if the Congress is voted to power.
"Obviously, due process would be followed in eliminating corruption in the civic administration. Widespread corruption took place in MCD in the last five years and we are determined to stem it," the Congress leader said.
Chief minister Sheila Dikshit and senior Delhi Congress leaders have been alleging large-scale corruption, including the ghost employee scam and accused the MCD of not taking any action against the guilty.
Dikshit has also blamed "corruption" in the MCD for the building collapse in the city in the last couple of years, saying "unsafe constructions" have been taking place across the city despite a spate of collapses in which hundreds of innocent lives have been lost.
